Yet another disgraceful performance. Am I talking about Hibs? No. Am I talking about Neil Lennon? No, well not yet. No, this time I'm talking about the Celtic Love-In that is the BBC Scotland commentary box. Once again I've spent an ire-raising afternoon listening to the billing and cooing coming from the love nest above the East Terrace as Rob McLean and Sandy Clark worship all things Parkheadian.

Who says there aren't adverts on the BBC? The whole commentary was an advert for the forthcoming UEFA Cup tie against Barcelona and the Battle of the Bigots at Ibrox next Sunday. Every ten minutes or so there was concern at who would or wouldn't make the trip to Barcelona. Who cares? I was under the impression that Hibs were playing Celtic yet, at times, Rob and Sandy seemed to be too concerned with their duty free allowance and who was getting to sleep on the top bunk!

No doubt lots of Hibs fans (i.e. the ones who didn't watch the game on Zitelli or live at Easter road) will see the score and assume we were the end of another roasting at the Old Firm. However, that's anything but the truth. For long spells we were more than holding our own yet the sucker punch was never long in coming.

Whilst Bobby freshened things up in midfield and upfront, changes were forced at the back with both Doumbe and Murdock out. The makeshift central pairing of Smith and Baillie didn't really hit it off but certainly weren't helped by Edge's inability to keep pace with either Agathe or, even more surprisingly, Jackie McNamara. Whittaker played well enough at left back and ventured forward when he could, with one good effort on goal.

We should hope that Daniel Andersson has put all his nightmares into one basket. Two shots through the legs and one shot through his brain doesn't take away from all the good work he has done this season. Time and time he has literally saved Hibs and he should be forgiven for today's faux pas. Referee Dougie McDonald also saw fit to book the Swede on the hour mark for dissent after he had said something to the Assistant referee whilst pointed to him to go up the pitch!! A strange decision to say the least.

The forward triumverate of Dobbie, Brown and McManus worked very well together and constantly looked a threat. However, the lack of a "penalty box striker" was very evident. Do we actually have one at the club? We do, but Bobby prefers to play them as wingers!

Notwithstanding the defence lapses, my one area of concern was the anonymous twins in midfield. Nicol and Reid never really stamped themselves on the game and you could have been forgiven for thinking that they hadn't actually started the game. Nicol's only memorable contribution was to receive a yellow card for a high tackle. Okay, maybe it was a booking but he was unlucky for the simple reason that both Celtic's McManus and Bobo "Forearm Smash" Balde has both escaped punishment for worse misdemeanours.

This brings me nicely to the referee and his "Assistants". I think if I had had such a bad day at my work I'd have been looking at at least a Verbal Warning. Quite simply Dougie McDonald was awful. And his Assistant Graeme Alison was just as bad.

For one official to miss Lennon's kick at Scott Brown is one thing but for two of them to fail to see it, especially when looking right at the incident, is unforgivable. It will be interesting, in view of recent trials-by-television, if the SPL will look at this incident again. That would be no good to Hibs now and won't get us the penalty it should have. It also won't get us the man advantage that would have made a difference had McDonald had the bottle to send Lennon. Of course, we all know he wouldn't have sent him off but we'll never know, will we?

McDonald has also turned away another penalty claim when Kennedy impeded Dobbie as he made his way into the box. And there's me thinking that it's only in Glasgow we don't get those decisions.

It's interesting that Rob, Sandy and Dougie liked to harp on about Scott Brown's "reputation" yet failed to point out the Greg Louganis-style tactics of Stilian Petrov. Once again the Bulgarian did a reverse 2½ somersault pike and Caldwell received a yellow card despite his justified protests. Caldwell goes through Petrov shortly afterwards whilst winning the ball. But John Kennedy decides to take the law into his own hands by attempting to go through the back of Caldwell in the next challenge. Result? No foul and Mr McDonald's grip on the game has well and truly gone. Shortly afterwards, McManus was quite rightly booked for a hack on Agathe but his attempt to apologise to the Frenchman was met with a shove.

Referee McDonald completed his bad afternoon with a harsh straight red card for Baillie. He jumped for a high ball with Craig Beattie and both fell to the floor. Beattie prevented Baillie from getting off the ground and Baillie reacted by sticking his head into Beattie's stomach. Playground stuff but Hibs', and McDonald's, bad afternoon was complete. With any sense Hibs will appeal.

The scoreline flattered Celtic and I'd like to think that with Doumbe and Murdock on the pitch we would have fared so much better. Then again we would have needed another referee too.

I hope Rob, Sandy and Chick enjoy their trip to the Catalonian capital. I really hope they don't get fleeced in the European pickpocket capital. I really hope they get rumbled on the Ramblas. No, I mean that, I really do!!
