Yesterday, Derek Riordan was found not guilty of breach of the peace. Not a particularly newsworthy event, one would have thought. Well, not unless you happen to work for the Daily Record it would seem.
Compare and contrast these two articles, one here appeared in the Scotsman and this rambling nonsense from the Daily Record. Riordan, like O' Connor before him, was not found guilty of any crime. So how the **** was the trial worth a decent sized article in today's Daily Record? A report of the incident also appeared in today’s Evening Times!!!
Elsewhere, Hearts continue to cause great amusement. Well, not just Heart of Midlothian Football Club. This time it’s their sponsor Ukios Bank, which placed this little amusing snippet on it’s website, and I quote word for word; “By sponsoring this football club, which is the best known both in Scotland and all over the football world, the Bank seeks to make its name more known abroad as well as to turn the attention of the potential partners and investors to the activity of the Bank.” Would it be safe to assume that a PR person, or a translator picked up their jotters for that little piece?
The manager saga over by rumbles on. Hearts are now back in training, and no appointment is forthcoming. George Burley is apparently now “going to be appointed any day”, but I’m sure I’ve heard that phrase somewhere before. Not many bookmakers are taking bets on John McGlynn for some strange reason.
Hibs return for pre season training tomorrow, ahead of their first friendly game on Sunday. As yet Michael Stewart has not signed, Derek Riordan is still a Hibs player, and nobody else has yet come too. One player who might not be around for long though is Dermot McCaffrey, who has been selected for the Northern Ireland in the European Under 19 championships which are being held in Ulster from July 18th to 25th. The left back/centre back has impressed in the reserves this season and will face up to Germany, Greece and Serbia in Group A. Good luck to Yer Man.
One player who looks to be staying around Easter Road is Kevin McDonald, who is expected to sign his new two year contract on his return to pre season training. The 20 year old made his debut for Hibs against Livingston in a 4-1 defeat back in May 2004. Although, his first team appearances have been fleeting since, he has been impressive in the reserves, and may yet make a breakthrough this season.
It does not seem like five and a half weeks since the end of last season, and four and a half until the start of next season. I can’t wait. |
