Michael Stewart, lately of Hearts, today completed his move to Hibs by agreeing a one year deal, and will join up with the Squad later today, and could make his debut against Cork City on Sunday.
Tony Mowbray: "I have long admired Michael having watched him as a young boy at Manchester United reserves. He is a midfield player that can dictate the pace of the game with his passing ability."
"At Hibernian we play a style of football that I am sure will suit his game and I am confident we can provide Michael with the platform that gives him the opportunity to achieve his full potential and be the player we know he can be.”
Michael Stewart: "I know there will be stick from some quarters, I’m an Edinburgh boy, I’ve grown up within that derby environment, but Tony Mowbray is a manager who is clearly going places with Hibs and in the game at large. I wanted to stay in Edinburgh, and I’m delighted to have been offered this opportunity."
Stewart is 24, a midfielder, and has won 3 Scotland caps. He stands nearly 6' tall, and despite breaking into the Manchester United first team he never really established himself. That's not surprising the calibre of player he was competing against.
He has previously been on loan with Royal Antwerp, and Nottingham Forest before spending last season with Hearts. He quickly fell out of favour with both Craig Levein & John Robertson and was an unused substitute more often than not. |
